Action in amber
On 07/25/2024 02:54 pm by Randy Strauss | Walnut Creek Lake, Nebraska
This Eastern Amberwing dragonfly (Perithemis Tenera) is the smallest dragonfly found in Nebraska, and is generally considered the second smallest found in the USA (second to the Elfin Skimmer). At about an inch long, they are approximately the same length as damselflies. Eastern Amberwings are currently prolific here and hyperactive. This male (as determined by wing coloration) rarely rested in one place for more than a second or two, then resumed hunting. They are very skittish around people. I had to keep my distance to take this shot, leaning over a bridge with the amberwing below me.
