Taken during a windy afternoon under a partly cloudy sky--not the best of conditions for this kind of photography. Using lens extenders to achieve this magnification requires a lot of light and I avoid using a flash, even with a diffuser, I think I get a more natural look this way. Most damselflies won't stay in one place very long so I wait until I find one that remains stationary. I then take multiple shots and use the one with the best focus. The depth of focus with this lens setup is very unforgiving.
Canon SL2 DSLR and Canon 18-55mm lens (used at 55mm), with 7mm and 14mm extenders. 1/200 sec, ISO 800.
