Fearless flight
On 07/12/2024 05:15 pm by Randy Strauss | Suburb of Omaha, Nebraska
Our extreme heat here in Nebraska has resulted in hawks riding thermal updrafts and putting on some pretty good acrobatic shows. Some just hover, watching for prey, others engage in mock dogfights with other hawks. This guy specialized in dramatic dives, recovering just above the ground, regaining altitude and diving again. Getting this photo was a challenge; I was shooting into the sun, the hawks were moving very fast and were quite a ways away. As soon as I would get one in focus, they were out of focus. Took about 100 frames in fifteen minutes, this one was the most interesting. This guy was fearless.
