Rate Asperitus clouds over Islamabad!

On 07/12/2024 01:54 pm by Adeel Shafiq| Islamabad, Federal Area, Pakistan

Witnessed an absolutely crazy set of clouds this afternoon in Islamabad today. They were sort of slowly evolving mamatus clouds at first which were suddenly abrupted and torn apart by strong winds resulting in Asperitas cloud formation appeared as if someone swept the clouds by strong force mimicking the movement of waves.
Asperitas is a rare formation that seems to form in the vicinity of Cumulonimbus storm systems. It can be thought of as an undulatus gone crazy. Asperitas differs from undulatus by the fact that its waves are more chaotic and disorderly, lacking any of the regularity and organisation typical of undulatus.
