During an incredible stargazing evening with my friends, we had the opportunity to capture the magnificent North American Nebula (NGC 7000) using two astronomical telescopes. This nebula, located in the constellation Cygnus, is one of the most beautiful and largest emission nebulae visible from Earth. Its shape resembles that of the North American continent, hence its name.
The NGC 7000 nebula has an apparent magnitude of 4, which means it is visible to the naked eye under perfectly dark sky conditions. Its angular size is about 120x100 arcminutes, which is almost four times the diameter of the full moon!
This nebula is composed of clouds of ionized hydrogen, giving rise to the brilliant red hues we can observe. It is located about 1,600 light-years from our planet and spans about 50 light-years.
🌌 Here’s to many more nights under the stars in good company!
