North America and a Butterfly

On 06/06/2024 02:00 am by Soumyadeep Mukherjee| Barskoon Valley, Kyrgyzstan

Can you photograph North America while standing at a beautiful Central Asian gorge? If you are a sky lover and you have clear skies, you can (if you also know what I mean)! North America Nebula or NGC 7000 is what you are seeing right at the centre of the image. In the night sky, it is easy to find it out. It is situated right beside Deneb, the bright blue star in the image. Notice another nebula at the top-right corner? That is the Butterfly nebula or IC 1398, another gorgeous emission nebula.
Barskoon valley, situated between tall mountains in both east and west, provides ample opportunities for deepscape images. During our stay at the beautiful swiss tents at the location, we were able to photograph a few nebulae rising and setting along the mountains.
