Broad-billed hummingbird is a stunning species that graced our backyard today, June 21, 2024. These small, vibrant birds are native to Mexico and parts of the southwestern United States. Renowned for their iridescent feathers, the males display a vivid combination of metallic green on their upperparts and a vibrant fuchsia-red throat. Females, although less flashy, exhibit a captivating blend of green and gray plumage, often complemented by white feathers underneath. Known for their agility and speed, broad-billed hummingbirds are skilled pollinators, particularly attracted to bright, tubular flowers. It's a delightful encounter to witness these charming creatures up close, an experience that truly illustrates the magnificence of nature in our own backyard.
