Release of female Rufous hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) after being banded in Alaska. This a part of a study of population to ascertain possible danger to their numbers due to many issues. Let loose, quick escape. They are trapped with a feeder that has a net that can be lowered around the feeder. The banders are very experienced, care deeply about the birds, and do not harm them.
An amazing migratory bird

These birds migrate from Central America to Alaska each year,
The go to feeders where they are caught for banding, but bugs make up much of the diet and in Summer, Alaska has bountiful bugs.
