Standing room only

This evening I watched a nest of young great blue herons wait for their evening meal. When they saw one of their parents returning, they all rose at the same time, expecting supper, only to discover the parent had nothing for them. The adult soon flew off, I'd imagine to search the lake again for a fish to bring home.
