Emerging active sunspot

On 05/29/2024 11:00 am by David Hoskin| Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Sunspot group AR3664, which was responsible for the May 10 display of Northern Lights, has completed its 2 week trip around the far side of the Sun and is emerging on the SE limb of the Sun. It is now designated AR3697 and is still active, unleashing an X-class solar flare earlier today. The white light filtered image (L) and the hydrogen-alpha filtered image (R) were captured this morning.

For filtered white light image, Celestron Omni XLT 150 reflector telescope, Baader solar filter, ZWO ASI290MM camera, and SkyWatcher EQ6R Pro mount.
For filtered hydrogen alpha image, Lunt 40mm solar telescope, ZWO ASI290MM camera and generic 1.5x Barlow, and SkyWatcher EQ6R Pro mount.

For filtered white light image, 125 out of 2500 frames of SER video were stacked with AutoStakkert, wavelets adjusted with Registax, and additional post-processing with Photoshop.
For filtered hydrogen alpha image, 250 out of 2500 frames of SER video were stacked with AutoStakkert, and additional post-processing with IMPPG and Photoshop.
