Cirrus Radiatus Clouds

On 05/24/2024 01:07 pm by Peter Lowenstein| Mutare, Zimbabwe

At lunchtime on Friday 24th May there was an unusual display of beautiful thin Cirrus Radiatus clouds in clear blue sky which appeared to converge on the summit of a prominent hill in Cecil Kop Nature Reserve. The bright Sun which was almost directly overhead made it difficult to photograph them and had to be kept partially concealed behind the leaves of a tree or the eaves of the roof on my house to reveal fine detail in the display. The clouds actually run parallel to each other but appear to converge in the distance due to an optical illusion. More information at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirrus_radiatus
