Trona Pinnacles Milky way

On 05/04/2024 02:30 am by Abhijit Patil| Trona Pinnacles, California, USA

Among the various geological features that span the American Southwest, Trona pinnacles are one of the most unique ones. Made of Calcium Carbonate, these spires rise up to 140 feet in height. These are 10K to 100K years old and had formed as a part of the Searles lake basin. Searles lake basin is now an almost dry lake area but some decamilleniums ago it formed an interconnected link of lakes spanning till Death Valley. Now based in an arid dry desert, these fragile Cal Carb structures once were under 600+ feet of water! While driving to Death Valley, these tufas are an unmistakable feature seen from the road. I spent two nights here and explored some part of the pinnacles.
