Aurora over Lower Table Rock
On 05/10/2024 12:18 am by Andrea Boyle| Medford, Oregon
I almost missed this because I was reading in my car while my camera was taking shots for star trails. I was using a reading light so anytime I looked outside, it looked dark and not this color. It wasn't until another photographer drove up to me at 11:00pm and advised me to look at my camera that my jaw fell open. I never would have imagined seeing an aurora in Southern Oregon! With that, I put away my book and concentrated on getting enough images for a good panorama. I took this one shortly before heading home for some sleep.
Astro-modified Canon R6 camera with Canon 15-35 2.8 lens at 28mm. Shots were at f/2.8 for 13 seconds at ISO 1600. Really Right Stuff tripod and ball head.
4 shots were stitched together in Adobe Lightroom for this Panorama. The foreground was darkened slightly with a linear gradient to cut down the light on the trees caused by passing traffic. No enhancements to the sky were needed that night.
