This is a Great Blue Heron in breeding plumage.
During courtship and breeding season the Great Blue Heron achieves full neck and chest plumes for elegant display. The lore or skin around his intense golden yellow eyes turns a distinctive bright blue, the bill brighter orange, and the legs reddish purple. The bill turns even deeper orange after courtship. The feather and color transformations occur gradually.
