Another remarkable Volcanic Sunset.
On Monday 18th March, after a normal sunset behind Murahwa Mountain, the sky became brighter over the next 20 minutes as a volcanic aerosol twilight arch emerged from behind the sunset horizon and then developed prominent pastel and then stronger coloured crepuscular rays. These reached peak intensity a quarter-of-an-hour later to produce the now familiar brightly coloured volcanic sunset display which fans out from the original sunset point and then gradually fades and retreats towards it again. This again illustrates the long-term effect the massive Hunga-Tonga eruption of January 15th 2022 has had on our Southern Hemisphere stratosphere.
