Belted Kingfishers are patient, sitting on a tree branch and watching the water, waiting for an opportunity to dive for a fish. Once spotted, they take off at incredibly fast speeds, diving down to the water, grabbing their prey and returning to their branch to eat it. I was fortunate enough to get this Kingfisher just after she started her dive. Male Belted Kingfishers have a brown "belt" across their chest. The females do not which was how I was able to determine this to be a female.
