Thanks to EarthSky.org, I was ready for the full (Hunter) Moon on the evening of Oct 28 and for brilliant Jupiter to cozy up to her. But then, what appears but a nice lunar halo. It was hard to get the halo, Jupiter, and the Moon in proper exposure (partly because I don't own a tripod!). So, in this image I favored the pretty halo and the Moon. But to add interest, I pasted inset images of Jupiter from the night of 27 and 28 Oct. Note that 4 Jovian moons are visible for the first night and 2 (maybe 3?) for the second night. I presume that the differing orbital periods of satellites at different orbital radii explains how the view changes from night to night. Cool! Maybe a REAL astronomy can expand on this matter?
