Partial Lunar Eclipse with Blue Umbral fringe aka Blue scattering bands from Lahore
Our location on the globe has been scarce this year in terms of eclipses this season but I was able to capture tonight's eclipse with blue scattering bands. This phenomenon is a result of Rayleigh scattering, during a lunar eclipse most of the light illuminating the moon passes through the stratosphere where it is reddened by scattering. However light passing through the upper stratosphere penetrates the ozone layer, which absorbs red light and actually makes the passing light ray bluer, and hence the blue bands appear near the Umbral shadow.
