I set up for the annular solar eclipse shortly before 8 am but the cloud cover was extensive and the beginning of the eclipse was entirely obscured from view at my location in Chico, CA. I am located south of the path of totality so this was a partial eclipse in my area. The first breaks started at about 9 am and continued intermittently until about 10:10 am when it was totally obscured again. The rapidly changing lighting conditions and fast moving and varied cloud cover required manual shooting mode and constant adjustments to settings. This was challenging but fun!

Nikon D750 with Nikon 28.0-300.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens set at 300mm with DayStar Universal Solar lens filter on a tripod with corded remote shutter release. Due to the constantly changing conditions because of the moving cloud cover, photo settings varied per shot. Shutter speed varied from 1/100 sec to 4 sec, ISO from 400-2800, f/5.6-f/36, basically I was shooting manual mode and adjusting settings every couple of seconds as conditions changed.

I cropped each image to roughly the same size and then imported my best shots representing the progression of the eclipse into Photoshop using Load files into Stack. They were stacked with a screen blending mode to allow the eclipse to override black and merged to one photo. No other edits or adjustments were made to images. Final image was resized per requirements of upload.
