Thick clouds got in the way of viewing the annular solar eclipse in our area. But I made sure to watch the livestream, and truly grateful to have seen the early images and will keep checking the amazing eclipse photos here on EarthSky.
In between running errands today, I walked to the edge of the creek and saw this pair of mallard ducks, the Northern Hemisphere's most abundant and widespread waterfowl. In front is the male with its iridescent green head, brownish feathers, yellow bill and a white collar around its neck. Beside him, barely visible, is the female, her feathers mottled brown. They both have orange feet. They were taking a nap for awhile, then they swam away together.
