The Big Dipper shines bold and bright. The Big Dipper's 7 stars form an asterism, a part of the constellation Ursa Major, Latin for "Greater She-Bear).
In the United Kingdom, this asterism is mostly known as the Plough. There are many stories and legends about the Big Dipper. In an Arabian story, the Big Dipper bowl illustrates a coffin, and the three stars of the handle are mourners who follow the casket.
