A female Annas hummingbird that has now taken residence in our yard. Her wings are still slightly protruding from preening, usually the wings are tucked in tight when simply perched and resting. The metallic green color is pretty. They have visual pigments attuned to the shorter wavelengths, oranges and reds. They often will approach people wearing red caps or shirts, and red hummingbird feeders are highly attractive and they rapidly learn their locations. They are very common hummingbirds, being permanent residents in the Pacific Northwest. Annas hummingbirds are the only hummingbirds to stay in Oregon year-round.
