Although I hadn't planned to shoot today's Blue Moon, I've been taking our Weimaraner, Luna, for walks after sunset along the shore of White Rock Lake near where we live so at the last minute I decided to bring along my small refractor telescope and Nikon DSLR to see if I could catch a shot of the full moon rising over Corinthian Sailing Club before our walk.

Unfortunately, traffic along the shore road was so heavy - I guess the news talked up the Blue Moon enough that everyone was out to see it - that the Moon was already well up in the sky as I was parking. I hastily set up the scope and camera, did my best to get a reasonably sharp focus on the Moon and started shooting.

Ironically, this was the first shot I snapped. Although I might be able to merge a few of the bracketed shots I took after it for something with better dynamic range, this is close enough to what I was after that I think I'll stick with it.
