I was fortunate to spend 24 hours on a pelagic trip aboard a boat run by the Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center. The trip left from Cape May, NJ Saturday night and by first light we arrived at the Wilmington Canyon area of the Atlantic Ocean.

The focus was to see how many species of pelagic birds and animals we could spot.

One of the amazing experiences was getting great looks at five different species of pelagic dolphins.

From top left, clockwise:
- Short-finned Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) oceanic dolphin family (Delphinidae) despite its name.
- Risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus)
- Atlantic spotted dolphin (Stenella frontalis)
- common bottlenose dolphin or Atlantic bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)
(offshore or pelagic subspecies.)
- striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba)
