It took 12 miles, including a mile segment with an elevation gain of 4,500' to ascend Spider Glacier and cross the pass of Spider Gap, a long scree scramble down to Lyman Lake over loose rocks and ice, and a few mild twists and turns of the trail next to the glacier-fed creek to find the campsite. The Milky Way was swinging into full view when the last vestiges of twilight faded away.
