Cuyamaca is a Lake in rural Julian, California, about a 90 minute drive from San Diego. Julian is a Dark Sky Community. Yet, ambient light from neighbouring communities do cause some light pollution. It was a very calm night and so the water was like glass and captured the reflections of the stars in the dark skies. And a reflection of the Jeffrey pines...brilliant! The SpaceX had passed by minutes before leaving a trace of the pinkish tinge in the sky...a very rare event for sure! Due to ample rainfall in the winter of 2022, the lake was very full and as I shot, I could hear the bullfrog croaking very loudly. It was truly a peaceful setting with stars shimmering above and reflected in the calm waters. Soon the Milky Way core will not be visible in the Northern Hemisphere. Also, the sun still sets later but the core rises earlier and earlier. These kinds of shots have to be accomplished on moon-less nights or on nights when the moon arises and/or sets after the moon has left the skies so as to not drown the stars. Such is the power of the moon and the sun!
