An Atlantic marsh fiddler crab, hiding among the wrack. This species can be found from New Hampshire (and possibly expanding northward due to climate change) to northern Florida.

They can be seen scurrying around mudflats during low tide, but burrow during high tide.

Females have both claws that are the same size, and males' “major” claw is much larger than the “minor” claw.

Look for them in soft sand or mudflats, near salt marshes.
