This is a species of Bee Fly ,Paravilla californica, which I captured with my cell camera while scoping the shrubbery for the Shadow Darner dragonflies I had seen earlier. They mimic Honeybees in size and color scheme.
These creatures have been around for about 140 million years. - according to North American Insects & Spiders
