A very close encounter with a racoon, and during the day! While sitting by the Mohawk River, watching birds, I turned my head and was looking face to face (10 feet away) with the cutest racoon. I think we were both shocked, she backed slowly down the embankment, & I could breathe. Even though they are nocturnal they will hunt during daylight when they have babies, which I am assuming was the case (it's that time of year). It looked healthy and just strolled away to the woods.
