This cicada crawling up one of my Prickly Pear cacti has just hatched and is still pumping fluid into its wings and exoskeleton. It spent its larval stage of life underground and is now into its adult stage of life. Many of you know them by their singing in the trees during the summer afternoons and early evenings. This species is, IMO, Okanagana utahensis, but it's hard to tell until the full coloration is present. It was light green when it hatched like some of the veins in its wings.
