Shot from Bastable Mill Road just south of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Catlett, Virginia, the crescent Moon, Venus, and Mars (bottom right to top left) form a perfect diagonal line in the sky on May 21, 2023. The 30-second exposure was helped by the Canadian wildfire smoke in the upper atmosphere--in that the crescent Moon was dimmed enough to allow the Earth shine to be captured--and hurt--in that some dimmer stars did not shine through. But the two bright stars above Venus, Pollux and Castor (left and right, respectively) shown through to balance the shot.
