Super species of the day is the Gopher Tortoise! These reptiles are named after their incredible digging abilities - they even have unique shovel like front legs that make it easy for them to dig their famous burrows.

Gopher tortoise burrows are known to provide habitat for over 350 species. They average 15 feet long and 6.5ft deep but the largest documented burrow was 40ft long and 10ft deep! GT are incredibly important to the ecosystem and all of the animals they shelter with their hard work.

These photos are a part of an ongoing series titled “The Loop,” dedicated to spreading awareness of the fact that nearly half of the FL Wildlife Corridor in Volusia county is not in conservation currently. My goal is to use my art to advocate for further conservation of these precious lands in order to preserve our states rich biodiversity and protect its inhabitants! #florida #reptiles #gophertortoise #photography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #learn #share #care
