The Snake Pass image was acquired on a bright clear day, converted to monochrome and the Moon and stars were added on top from separate images acquired over the past few months. Even the Nikon D800, with 14 bits of dynamic range, used for the Moon image does not have the capability to properly expose all of the elements in this image in a single exposure.
