Don't let moonlight discourage you from watching a meteor shower. The Geminids this year were awesome even with the moon. It was cold in Yosemite -- 18 degrees on the car thermometer! Our cameras and tripods were totally covered in frost. The ground fog came and went like ocean waves. This composited image shows 12 Geminids that flew past the camera before the moonrise. When the moon peaked over the mountains, we turned our cameras 90 degrees and kept on exposing. Many meteors were visible despite the moon. It was an amazing evening and we photographed to almost 2:30 in the morning

Sony A7IV, Sigma 14-24 at 22 mm; tripod, intervalometer, hand warmers wrapped around the lens; battery pack connected via USB to camera; ISOs 12800 to 8000 as the moonlight got brighter; Foreground ISO 800

Composited image of 12 meteors taken from 9:19 p.m. to 10:50 p.m., time shifted to show their direction of travel from the radiant point above stars Castor & Pollax. Foreground is a combination of blue hour blend and an evening shot. Processed in Photoshop and Lightroom.
