This is a circumzenithal arc, an optical phenomenon like a halo around the sun, according to a page I found on this site. In this photo, the sun is behind the trees at the bottom-centre of the photo. I'm 50 years old and I had never seen one of these before. Don't know if it's still active, but here's the photo anyway.
