Volcanic Sunset and Sunrise.
After two weeks of overcast conditions, clouds unexpectedly started clearing on the afternoon of Tuesday 15th November to reveal colorful volcanic sunset display (upper image) and bright sunrise twilight arch (lower image) the following morning. These volcanic displays which are, weather permitting, continuing to occur every day shortly after sunset and before sunrise, are due to the lingering presence of low-level stratospheric aerosols from the massive eruption of Honga-Tonga volcano on January 15th. That sufficient quantities of volcanic debris are still present in the stratosphere 10 months later is testimony to how powerful this eruption must have been.
