The Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula located around 1300 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cepheus. It is illuminated by a bright central star: SAO 19158. The light from this star reflects off surrounding dark cosmic dust, creating the blue color. This dark cosmic dust extends out into the area surrounding the reflection nebula as well.
