Lately I've become more aware of cloud shadows – darkly serendipitous sky paintings of clouds or landscape features. This morning's sunrise was a stunning example! As the sun rises behind a cloud bank, it casts a shadow of another nearby cloud. More amazingly, at the far left of this image one can also see the treeline crisply cast as shadows onto the sky.
What a spectacular shadow artist is our sun!

I tweaked the exposure down slightly to compensate for the rising sun's glare.
