Young Moon and Mercury in Volcanic Sunset.
On Monday 29th the 4.7% illuminated 2 day old waxing crescent Moon and Mercury were observed in a colourful volcanic sunset display from when Mercury first appeared at 6.09 pm after which the pair continued to descend in various shades of fading volcanic sunset sky until darkness approached at 6.39 pm. The occasion was of interest not only because the setting Moon was fairly close to Mercury but also because Mercury was still high in the evening sky following its maximum elongation from the Sun two days earlier on the 27th

Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 and ZS40 in sunset and manual exposure modes.

Image size reduction and compilation of 6 image montage. Minimal application of Star Spikes Pro filter to make Mercury more clearly visible.
