Even though National Moth Week is officially over, moth enthusiasts still have their lights set up to check out the biodiversity that exists in their favorite patches, such as their own backyards.
This Underwing Moth was hiding from the rain in our backyard. Though they are black and white and gray on top, their underwing reveals a striking reddish-orange pattern that helps identify to species. (And hence their name.)
This just proves the point, moths are not boring!
