This is a flower of the Southern Magnolia tree. Magnolia grandiflora, hence the large blooms. This flower is 30 cm or 12" across and sweetly fragrant. The tree bearing it is ~50 feet tall and 15 feet in diameter with a 18" diameter trunk. Growing in my father's yard who I recently visited on my vacation.
