Highlighting the importance of Horseshoe Crabs in bird ecology along the Delaware Bay and other stopover (refueling) points along the 10,000 mile journey of the Endangered Red Knot and other shorebirds from South America to their breeding grounds in the Arctic Tundra.

Horseshoe crab eggs (bottom left) are an important food source. Many Red Knots (bottoms right) arrive to the Bay emaciated, and will need to double their body weight to continue their journeys.
