A refrozen ice fishing hole about 6" across resembles Abell 39, the nebula NGC 2022, and many other deep space objects. I've been making images of unexpected beauty created by ice fishers for 2 decades because the next morning after the folks leave, what emerges in inches of new ice are visions of stars, cells, eyes, galaxies and more. Unusually warm weather meant a late start to ice season here in New England, but I captured some images like this just before a new snowfall. I call this series Ice Visions, and more can be found at my website or Instagram page, @erikhoffner. I like to think of these as temporary, eye-like lenses gazing into the night sky and reflecting what they see out there in deep space.

Sony RX100 series camera.

I desaturated the image to remove blues and greens.
