I was on Mt. Evans, west of Denver, all afternoon and evening for the sunset, which was rather bland. Since the summit road to Mt. Evans is closed after Labor Day, I decided to hang out until dark to try some Milky Ways shots with the ruins of the Summit House in the foreground. The Summit House was built in the early 1940s and was destroyed by a propane fire in 1979. Never rebuilt, the U. S. Forest Service has stabilized the structure as a historic site.

I had set my camera up for some shots to the east of the lights of Denver and lightning flashes over the distant plains. I swung my camera around for some shots of the Summit House and Milky Way to the right when someone on a bicycle (!) appeared with the brightest headlamp I'd ever seen. I took several shots of the rider walking his bike up to the ruins, being annoyed at how bright his light was. But when he took the bike inside and I got this shot, I changed my mind about being annoyed and thought this was a cool shot. The softer light on the right side of the building is from another car in the parking lot with daytime running lights casting a faint sidelight.
