M101, or the Pinwheel Galaxy is a face on spiral galaxy about ~ 21 mill light years from earth in the constellation of Ursa Major. Its a very photogenic looking galaxy and although it is not seen in this photo it contains many hydrogen alpha glowing nebula in its spiral arms. Like all galaxies it is very amazing to photograph!
