I was rushing to work and I first noticed this sun pillar when it was directly in line with the peak of the hill. It looked like it was coming out of the mountain! I stopped to take a few quick photos out the window once I could almost see the sun. Good thing I live on a low-traffic dirt road!
This was the first sunny day we've had after a week of snow and wind. The temperature was about 18° F.
