Zodiacal light, seen in this image, is a faint hazy cone of light that extends from the western horizon along the ecliptic. The light cone points towards M45 and Mars. Zodiacal light is caused by sunlight reflecting off dust and ice particles within the plane of the solar system. In the spring zodiacal light is visible just after twilight under dark skies.
