This image of M42 ( Orion's Nebula and the "Running Man " nebula ) was captured from my back yard between the hours of 8:00 pm to midnight. This time of year it is quite high in the sky which makes for best possible seeing. My skies are Bortel 8 , but thanks to light pollution filters and plenty of darks, flats and bias frames, it seemed to have minimal effect. There is a tremendous amount of dust surrounding M42 and even with x0 .72 focal reduction, I still couldn't fit it all. But the core with the trapezium is quite nicely preserved. My new L-extreme filter really enhances the H alpa gas clouds. I used a homemade diffraction spike creator from 2 pieces of wire criss crossing the opening of my telescope. Its really a shame how jpeg quality really takes away from original final photo.
