Every time when I look out from my flat and see a bird that I had not spotted in the vicinity, i try my best to quickly take a picture before it fly off. Fortunately I managed to capture it as it only stay at the branch for less than 5 mins ! And sorry for the bad quality of the picture. This is a rufous woodpecker (Micropternus brachyurus) a medium-sized brown woodpecker believed to befound in South and Southeast Asia. According to wikipedia, it is short-billed and forage in pairs on small insects, particularly ants and termites, in scrub, evergreen, and deciduous forests and is noted for building its nest within the carton nests of arboreal ants in the genus Crematogaster. I was excited to see this woodpecker that was a surprise to me.
