Post-Sunset Crepuscular Rays
Ten minutes after the Sun had set at the base of a growing cumulus cloud (as described yesterday) post-sunset crepuscular rays started to be projected above it. The accompanying photograph, taken from a different viewpoint on Murambi Heights, provides a view of the crepuscular rays with a spectacular cloud shadow at 6.27 pm. This display was interesting in that it was produced by a nearby cumulus cloud with the rays and shadows being directly projected onto a local layer of thin high cloud. There was no bright yellow sunset twilight arch or magenta reflections from stratospheric aerosols as observed during a display of more distant origin on 17th February.
